Define the visual and lighting brief
Identify the fixture type, overall dimensions, finish, mounting height and relationship to nearby furniture. Describe the intended effect: general light, reading light or a decorative accent. Ask the lighting designer or responsible project adviser to define relevant output, colour appearance and other performance needs. A product photograph cannot establish how a shade distributes light or how comfortable the fixture will feel in an occupied space.
Confirm electrical and control compatibility
Record destination supply requirements, plug or connection type, switching and any dimming arrangement. Establish whether the product uses a replaceable lamp or an integrated light source, and identify the driver where relevant. Have qualified electrical reviewers confirm compatibility with the proposed controls and destination requirements. A supplier’s general statement that a product is suitable for export is not a substitute for evidence for the exact product being ordered.
Resolve mounting and installation interfaces
Coordinate ceiling or wall construction, fixing locations, cable entry and access to connection points. Heavy or suspended fixtures require an appropriate support arrangement reviewed by the responsible technical parties. Define who supplies mounting accessories and who installs and tests the finished lighting. For a custom chandelier, also check delivery access and the assembly sequence. Agree what arrives assembled and what must be completed on site before the shipment is packed.
Plan replacement and review a sample
Review the actual finish, visible joints and light effect where practical, using the proposed light source and controls. Ask how lamps, drivers or other serviceable components can be replaced after installation. Record replacement references and any access restrictions in the handover pack. For repeated fixtures, retain a suitable spare strategy agreed with the operator. Packaging should protect fragile parts and make site identification straightforward without relying on an image alone.
Project checklist
Before you release the order
- Define appearance, dimensions and intended light effect.
- Confirm electrical supply, controls and product evidence.
- Allocate support, installation and testing responsibilities.
- Record serviceable components and replacement references.
A useful question
Can decorative lighting be ordered from a photograph alone?
A photograph can start the design discussion, but the order also needs dimensions, finish, light-source details, electrical compatibility, mounting information and the required destination evidence. Resolve these with the responsible project professionals before committing to manufacture.
