Measure the finished installation conditions
For curtains, distinguish the window opening from the intended track position, coverage and finished drop. Identify who measures the completed site and who confirms deductions or allowances. Coordinate curtains with radiators, furniture, doors and ceiling details where relevant. For rugs, show the intended position relative to seating and circulation. Check door movement and changes in floor level with the responsible project advisers rather than choosing size by appearance alone.
Specify construction and appearance
Record fibre or material composition, backing, colour reference, pattern direction and edge treatment as relevant. Curtains also need a defined heading, lining and degree of light control. A fabric described as blackout does not by itself establish the darkness of the installed room; coverage and gaps matter. For cushions, identify dimensions, filling, closure and whether covers can be removed. Keep coordinated textile references together so changes remain visible.
Review maintenance and use requirements
Ask for care instructions for the exact textile and construction. Discuss whether the operator can carry out the proposed cleaning process and how removable components will be handled. Consider exposure to sunlight, expected traffic and the practical implications of pale colours or delicate textures. The project’s qualified advisers should determine applicable safety and other destination requirements. Do not assume a decorative textile selected for one application is appropriate for every other location.
Coordinate supply and installation
Separate the textile price from tracks, brackets, underlay, fitting and other required accessories. Identify who supplies each component and who checks compatibility. Agree labelling by room or zone, protect items from damp or dirt during storage, and plan installation after disruptive site work where feasible. For custom patterns or repeated textiles, consider retaining replacement material with clear references. Record actual installed dimensions for future reorders instead of relying on the original concept plan.
Project checklist
Before you release the order
- Confirm site measurements and finished sizes.
- List fabric, lining, backing and edge details.
- Allocate tracks, accessories and installation.
- Retain care instructions and reorder references.
A useful question
Does blackout fabric guarantee a completely dark room?
No. The fabric is only one element. Track design, overlaps, side gaps, top gaps and installation influence light leakage. Define the required result and review the complete curtain arrangement rather than approving only a small fabric sample.
